Since learning is considered a continuous cognitive process, the approaches children ac- quire to help improve the process are usually called cognitive strategies. Cognitive strategies are the management skills that a person acquires, presumably over a long period of time, to govern his or her own attention, learning, thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The concept of cognitive strategies stresses that the child not only learns the contents of knowledge in the curriculum but also learns, subtly, about the process of learning and what he does to guide his own learning.
